Welcome to MATERNAL NEWBORN AND CHILD HEALTH CARE. Women, newborns, and children are the majority of inpatients at Toronto East General Hospital (TEGH). Nearly 3,500 babies are born here annually. The hospital provides Level II Maternity and Neonatal Care and is a regional paediatric centre of the Child Health Network of Toronto. Please note: Our G7 paediatric area is completely nut free. Please do not bring any products containing nuts with you to this area of the hospital.
We are particularly proud of our extensive programs and services for all stages of pregnancy, birth, and child health care and of our official Baby Friendly ä designation, which we received from the World Health Organization and UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) in 2007 for providing an optimum environment for the promotion, protection and support of breastfeeding.
When the Maternal Newborn and Child Health Centre was designed, the focus was on creating a family-oriented environment, while increasing access to the expertise required for complicated births and the care of delicate infants.
The Centre offers 15 labour-birthing-recovery-postpartum (LBRP) rooms. These home-like rooms are designed so that moms can remain in one room for the entire birthing experience when possible.
