Withdrawal Management Centre is a 22 bed crisis intervention facility, providing physical care for the adult male in an acute state of intoxication or withdrawal from alcohol and other addictive substances.
The staff of the Withdrawal Management Centre are trained to:
- Respond to the behaviour patterns of the substance abuser in a state of intoxication or withdrawal
- Identify and respond to any immediate need for medical/mental health assessment and treatment
- Provide information on addictions assessment, counselling and treatment and/or rehabilitation services
- Undertake a screening process to determine client physical, medical, mental health and substance abuse recovery needs
- Help the client understand what has happened to him and what he can do about it
- Arrange referrals to counselling and treatment and/or rehabilitation programs
- Establish links with Alcoholics Anonymous and other self-help groups
- Provide education on substance abuse to family members
- Provide information on the reduction of personal harm for the client who does not wish to abstain from alcohol and other drugs after discharge
- Aid in the prevention of relapse
