  • People who have symptoms of respiratory illness (including new cough, fever, runny nose, other respiratory symptoms, vomiting and/or diarrhea) should contact their healthcare provider or call TeleHealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000.
  • For information about H1N1, call the ServiceOntario INFOline at:  1-800-476-9708 (8am-8pm) or go to the following website:  http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/alert-alerte/swine-porcine/faq_rg_swine-eng.php
  • If you have a routine out-patient appointment and are experiencing symptoms, please call to reschedule your appointment.
  • Please do not visit a patient or accompany a patient to the hospital if you are suffering from any of the flu-like symptoms.
  • Toronto East General Hospital always screens patients for respiratory illness, but we are taking special precautions at this time.  Please note:  if you report any flu-like symptoms, it will be necessary for you to wear a mask while at the hospital.
  • Very important – Please wash your hands frequently and observe any other infection control practices that our staff indicate as necessary while you are at the hospital.

Flu Vaccine Clinics and Flu Assessment Centres

Flu clinics are being held through the Greater Toronto Area.  For H1N1 vaccine clinic information: http://www.toronto.ca/health/cdc/h1n1/clinics.htm

Flu assessment centres can provide treatment if you think you have H1N1 and need medical treatment.  If you don't have a doctor or access to a walk-in clinic, a flu assessment centre can provide treatment and referral services.  Flu Assessment Centres do not take the place of emergency rooms and do not treat people with severe illness. For information about flu assessment centres:  http://www.toronto.ca/health/cdc/h1n1/assessment.htm

Handwashing

Good handwashing is the most important infection control practice!
There are proper techniques for washing hands - whether you are using soap & water or alcohol rub.
